I have never been very good at styling my hair. So when I tell you this updo with a braid is easy, I mean it. If I can do it, anyone can. The milkmaid braid headband is a perfect hairstyle to keep your hair out of the way on hot days. It holds & looks great all day, so it can easily go from day to night and is a perfect hairstyle for an all-day pool party. You do need longer hair, but you could also try french braiding it instead if you have shorter hair. I pulled it off with thin hair, but the thicker your hair is, the better this will look. It can be casual during the day or worn as an easy hairstyle for wedding guests. Dust on some bronzer with gold flecks to add to this beautiful goddess vibe.
Here is the milkmaid braided headband sported by boho queens like Nicole Richie and Siena Miller....

Siena Miller braided updo- braid halo
Step 1-
Part hair down middle. Put hair half up in claw to keep top section out of the way (try to keep part in tact). Put bottom half of hair into 2 sections.
Step 2-
Braid entire right section of hair in tight braid. I start an inch or two away from my head so you don't see my scalp. Secure with rubber band and spray with hair spray. Do the same to the left.
Step 3-
Wrap the left braid over across the top of head to your right side. Secure along the length of the braid with several bobby pins. Then, pull the right braid over to left side- so it is butting up alongside the first braid. You can place it closer to your forehead, like Siena Miller's or farther back like Nicole Richies's- whatever your heart's desire. Tuck ends of each braid into the other one.
Step 4-
Once braids are secure, take the rest of your hair out of the claw and pull into ponytail, bun or leave hair down. Leave a few front pieces down if desired, and curl. Spray well with strong hair spray. Add some ribbons for a different look-learn how on my blog here.

ReplyDeleteI love this but your hair has to be really long for this to work. Unfortunately my hair wasn't long enough but the tutorial is still great
ReplyDeletesame here. because my hair wasn't long enough, it didnt go all the way across my head. so, instead of doubling it up and using rubber bands to finish off the braid, i finished off the braid with bobby pins and also connected it to my head together in the middle to make one long braided headband. though its not doubled and is less thick, it still works and is cute! hope this works for you! enjoy!
