braided hair with ribbon

Braids are timeless and romantic and add a soft touch to any hairstyle. And they're great because there are so many options- you can braid a your bangs back, a peak-a-boo piece underneath or frame your face with a braid halo or headband....

But have you ever thought adding a different look by weaving a ribbon into your braid? It's super easy and gives your everyday braid an eclectic feel.  I recommend colors that contrast and stand out from your hair color (like cream, mint or pale violet for brunettes and black, burgundy or red for blondes), or you can also add an accent color from your outfit. Just don't be too matchy-matchy.

How-to braid hair with ribbon:
Grab a piece of hair from an underneath section that won't be seen, tie ribbon in a tight knot around the hair. Braid with a section of hair as normal. Put rubberband in and cut end of ribbon so it's even with the end of your hair.

Here I scooped the entire bottom section of my hair to one side, braided it, and pulled it over into a headband. Keep in mind that you will flip your braid over when you pull it over for a headband. Learn how to make a braided headband from my earlier blog here.

This is the peak-a-boo braid I wear with my hair down, the braid hidden in a bottom layer. Pull a lower chunk from behind your ear for this look. I used a pistachio light green ribbon here and let my hair dry naturally with a little bit of wave.
